Let me tell you something about humans.
You panic when your map glitches.
You freeze when a street forks into three.
But in Thailand? That’s where the good stuff starts.
Here, getting lost isn’t failure. It’s culture.
Ever heard of the word “แวะ” (wáe)?
It means to stop. Pause. Detour.
But it’s more than a verb — it’s a mindset.
Thai people แวะ all the time:
- On the way to lunch, to buy a flower
- Between errands, to sip tea under a tree
- On the way home, to light incense for no reason at a shrine they’ve passed for years
It’s a rhythm that isn’t rushed.
An openness to small moments that don’t appear on itineraries.
So the next time you miss your turn or end up somewhere unnamed — don’t pull out your phone. Let your paws (or feet, I suppose) lead you.
You might not know where you are. But the moment will.
