You don’t always need a plan.
But you do need a pocketful of quiet companions.
Here are three things I’ve carried on every journey where I didn’t know where I was headed — and somehow, they always made sense later.
1. A Small Notebook
Not for planning. Not even for journaling. Just a place to write what can’t be photographed. A scent. A sentence overheard. A question you weren’t ready to answer.
2. A Soft Scarf or Wrap
Something light and versatile.
For sudden breezes. For shrines. For when you need to sit somewhere unexpected.
Or when silence needs warmth.
3. A Lucky Thing
Not because you believe in magic.
But because holding it reminds you that maybe… magic believes in you. It can be a stone. A coin. A pressed flower.
Something that doesn’t explain itself — but feels like “you.”
You don’t need to know where you’re going.
Just what matters enough to bring with you.
And sometimes, those small things end up carrying you.
